<< New text box >>RUNNELS CEMETERY, San Augustine County, Texas, was visited and photographed on November 27, 2010, by Bob Britnell (misterbob@suddenlink.net) and sister Sandra. Note:We returned to this cemetery on December 20, 2017 and did an complete update, adding new pictures of burials that occured after our first visit, correcting some errors, and adding information not available at the earlier time.   We were told of this cemetery in a casual conversation while at a nearby cemetery; we were quite surprised to discover the graves of our Aunt Irene and both her husbands when we arrived there.  We had been trying to locate her grave, and stumbled on it by accident.  DIRECTIONS:  from Broaddus, go east on FM83 about 3 miles, and turn right (south) on FM2390, at the sign for Harvey Creek Park. Stay on 2390 until it ends at the gate to the park, about 5.5 miles.  Go left on the dirt road at the gate, CR4730, and proceed slowly a short distance. Before you reach the first house, you will see an obscure, overgrown driveway veering off on the right and leading up behind the white house. This small road has no road sign, but is marked on some maps as CR4732. The road passes between the remains of two brick columns or gateposts; the cemetery is just a short distance down the road.  
As usual, we photographed each headstone and will send pictures to anyone who asks, no charge. We copied the inscriptions as they appear on the headstones; information in parentheses is not on the markers, but was
added by the researchers.  (FHM) indicates a small Funeral Home Marker.
The graves of those names marked with an asterisk (*) were moved here from the Old Runnels Cemetery in Angelina County, not far away, now under the water of the lake These names were provided by another researcher, and may not be a complete list of relocated burials; however, headstones exist for those named here.
