PINE RIDGE CEMETERY, Shelby County, Texas. We visited and photographed this cemetery October 29, 2014.  DIRECTIONS:  from the junction of SR7 and Loop500 just north of Center, go north 7 ¾ miles to CR3000. (look for the green sign for Pine Ridge Cemetery on the left at CR3000) Turn left on CR3000 and follow it for about 2½ miles to the church and cemetery on the left.
    We have never been inside this church, (Pine Ridge Missionary Baptist Church) and we have no family members buried in the small cemetery next to it, but the church has an important part in our family history.  Our paternal great-grandfather, John Wesley Campbell Britnell, was born in Franklin County, Alabama in 1850. After the deaths of his first wife and 3 of their 5 children, JWC married Deborah Ann White, who became our grandmother.  In about 1895 this family removed to east Texas, settling in Shelby County. John Wesley Campbell Britnell was one of seven founding members of Pine Ridge Missionary Baptist Church of Christ. (Deborah was probably a founding member also, but the seventh name was missing on a torn page of the church minutes) This was in September, 1895. JWC served as Church Clerk for two years:  September, 1897 to September, 1899. His name appears frequently in the church minutes.
    JWC Britnell was living with his son James Ernest (from his first wife) when he died in Red River Parish, Louisiana. He is buried there. Deborah is buried in Old Home Cemetery, not far from Pine Ridge.

NOTE 1:  PNA3 was the abbreviation for the rating "Personnelman (PN) Records Clerk (A)" Petty Officer Third Class. In 2005 the "PN" rating was merged with the DK (Disbursing Clerk) rating to form the new rating of PS - Personnel Specialist. With that merger, all personnel record-keeping and payroll matters now reside in one rating.
NOTE 2:  GM3- Gunner's Mate, Petty Officer Third Class: operate and maintain all gunnery equipment; guided missile launching systems, rocket launchers, guns, turrets, and associated equipment. GMs are responsible for handling and stowage of ammunition and missiles.
NOTE 3:  BM2- Boatswain's Mate, Petty Officer Second Class. Train & supervise personnel in all activities relating to marlinspike, deck, and boat seamanship. Responsible for the maintenance of the ship's external structure and deck equipment. BMs operate and maintain small craft,  and are responsible for the actions necessary for mooring or un-mooring ships to piers or anchoring. BMs are usually attached to a ship's "First Division" and answer to that division officer, known as the "First Lieutenant".
