MT. DENA CEMETERY, San Augustine County, Texas, was photographed and transcribed 12/28/09. Pictures of individual headstones are available free upon request,
The cemetery sits behind an apparently-inactive Baptist Church by the same name. The church may have been named for the highest peak, named  Mount Dena, in  the Zagros Mountain Range in South West Iran. This mountain chain is about 70 Km long and has about 50 peaks above 4000 meters.  I was unable to discover any Biblical reference to Mt. Dena, and don't know the significance of this mountain to the naming of a Christian church.

The plaque (which does not photograph well), attached to the front of the church is quoted:

"Mt. Dnay Baptist Church

Remodeled 1964

This is an African-American cemetery.  DIRECTIONS:  From San Augustine on SR21, go east about 4.7 miles; there is a sign on the left side of the road indicating the driveway to Mt. Dena Baptist Church and Cemetery.  The driveway ends at the church. There are several unmarked graves; the notation (fhm) indicates a metal funeral home marker.
