LANE CEMETERY, San Augustine County, Texas, (also called "Lane Town Cemetery"), was photographed August 21, 2013. Some maps show this as "Lane Cemetery", but the sign on the highway calls it "Lane Town cemetery". Lane is an African-American cemetery.  Photos of individual headstones are available upon request.
DIRECTIONS:  from San Augustine, east of town, take FM353 east about 4.8 miles; just past White Rock Baptist Church at the sign for Lane Town Cemetery, turn left on CR122. Go 1.5 miles to CR124 on the right; you will see the cemetery on the right next to CR124.
There are some markers that are unreadable, and some that are difficult to read but some info is legible. In the instances that we can decipher the name and/or parts of the dates, we do extensive online research and can usually fill in the blanks. When our research turns up additional information, we include that data in either italics/parentheses or in footnotes.
The abbreviation (FHM) indicates a small metal funeral home marker; (Photo) indicates that the headstone includes a photo of the deceased. Names are entered here in alphabetical order by last name only to preserve adjacencies of family members. The number in parentheses following each name is the file number of the photo of that headstone, allowing quick retrieval of requested photographs.
Near some of the "Lane" graves, there are several small reddish-brown granite markers with just the first names "Alice", "Prince", "Bertha", "Nannie", "Thomas", and "Addie".  It is unclear if these are placeholders or mark burials of family members.

NOTE 1:  Valton was the son of Eugene and Peggy Lane. They were enumerated on the 1940 census living west of Hwy 87 in the Patroon enumeration district. Valton enlisted in the US Army Jan 21, 1946, and died Oct 1, 1946 while on active duty. He served as a PVT  in 3525 Transportation Corps Truck Company at the end of World War II.
