CLAY CEMETERY, San Augustine County, Texas, was photographed and transcribed on May 11, 2011, by Bob Britnell (misterbob@suddenlink.net) and sister Sandra.  (Clay Cemetery was updated June 25, 2019) Pictures were taken of each headstone, and are available free to any who asked -- contact Bob by Email.
DIRECTIONS:  From US96 in San Augustine, turn west on FM711 (at the carwash) and go 6 miles to CR205, on the left just past FM3017.  Turn left on 205 and go 2 miles to the intersection with CR207. Turn right and continue on the red-dirt road for about half a mile; the cemetery is on the left at the top of the hill. CLAY Cemetery, established in 1913, is a small African-American cemetery of about 3 dozen burials and still in use by the community.  As with all cemeteries we visit, we touched and photographed each headstone; all information here NOT in parentheses appears on the headstones, and is transcribed here as inscribed.  The abbreviation "(fhm)"  indicates a small funeral home marker. (The number in parentheses following each name is the file number of the picture of that headstone.)
